Hi, and thanks for checking out this page!
My name is Darren Richards, and I’m a guitar teacher based in Cornwall, originally from the beautiful fishing village of Newlyn. I’ve been passionate about guitar since the age of 13, and that passion led me to study music at Truro College, followed by professional guitar training at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music.
Live Experience & Career Highlights
I’ve had the privilege of performing across the country at various venues and festivals—including the legendary Isle of Wight Festival. During my time with the band The Perils, I shared the stage with icons like The Buzzcocks, Carbon Silicon, and Gary Moore—memorable moments that shaped my musical journey.
Teaching Journey
After the band’s run came to an end, I dove fully into teaching, working with respected institutions such as The Brighton Guitar Academy, Brighton Rockschool, and Sussex Academy of Music.
Fast forward to today, I’ve been back home in Cornwall for the past 11 years, and I’ve made it my mission to help people of all ages master the guitar—whether through structured courses, private lessons, or Online lessons (which I’ve been offering since 2011).
I previously taught at Trevada Music from 2013–2020, and I now work as a guitar tutor at:
-
St Hilary Primary School
-
Heamoor Primary School
-
Mounts Bay Academy
Outside of teaching, I also perform with one of Cornwall’s leading function bands, keeping my playing fresh and stage-ready.
Thanks again for reading—I look forward to helping you discover your love for guitar!
